{ANCHOR INTRO} KU'S STUDENT-OPERATED RADIO STATION HAS OVERCOME A CHALLENGE AND WILL GET TO DO SOMETHING FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE STATION'S HISTORY. FARZIN VOUSOUGHIAN SHARES WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT SOON FROM LAWRENCE'S TOP LOCAL RADIO STATION. KU'S STUDENT-RUN RADIO STATION HAS PRIORITIES AND GOALS SIMILAR TO ITS COMPETITORS, HAVE AN AUDIENCE AND DELIVER SOOTHING MUSIC FOR THE EAR. IN SUCCESSFULLY DOING SO, KJHK EARNED THE HONOR FOR BEST RADIO STATION IN LAWRENCE'S BEST OF AWARDS THIS PAST YEAR. HOWEVER, ONCE THE UNIVERSITY'S SUMMER BREAK GETS UNDERWAY, MANY STUDENTS LEAVE LAWRENCE, AND KJHK HAS VERY FEW DJs TO HELP OUT. Matt: You can't really rely on people to be around 24/7 to keep the station on the air. THIS LEAVES THE STATION NO CHOICE, BUT TO GO OFF AIR. UNTIL NOW. Farzin stand up: This summer will be the first time KJHK will remain on air for the entire break. With the push of two buttons .. the station will never go off air, remaining on 24/7. THANKS TO THE NEW, TWO-SCREEN WIDE ORBIT SYSTEM, THE STATION CAN CREATE AUTOMATED PLAYLISTS. THIS ALLOWS THE STATION TO KEEP ROCKING AND MAINTAIN ITS LOYAL AUDIENCE ALL SUMMER LONG. Sarah: It just helps sharing in general. And then you can sort by genre, we have a whole local music-like section in the Wide Orbit system. So I think it's going to help with local music in the future. Matt: With this system, we are able to pre-produce blocks of music. Each DJ produces a block of music for the show that they have that semester. And then over the course of the breaks, we can have music on air the whole time, which is awesome. KJHK WILL HAVE STUDENTS CONTRIBUTE TO DJ SHIFTS OVER THE SUMMER BREAK DURING FREE-FORM.
