The Judges have given this an Award because it illustrated the desire of the team to push the place making agenda in an area which needed a new purpose on the edge of the city centre. The development block is a significant one - terminating the grid plan of the city combined with its visual dominance from Glasgow's transport arteries that power alongside the building. The freshly created public realm is sleek and modern – right down to well considered colouring of the planting material to reflect the tones in the development. The steps (some of which are accentuated) also acted as seats to allow people to break out and sit in the space – all to be enjoyed. The development was ambitious but also sensitive. It also opened up access to the adjacent Hilton Hotel. All in all, the development added value all round.
